About Regional Cancer Centre Rohtak


Medical College and Hospital Rohtak was established in 1960 in joint Collaboration with Medical College Patiala and later shifted to Rohtak in 1963. On 1st April 1995 it was upgraded to Pt. BDS Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Rohtak. The Department of Radiation Oncology came into existence in the year 1977. On 7th Dec 1977 this institution got its first fully rotational Theratron 765 cobalt teletherapy unit. The new building of Regional Cancer Centre has been inaugurated on 20th Dec 1988.




In 1990s this institution got another cobalt tele-therapy machine, facility for intracavitary brachytherapy and other equipment required for a full-fledged radiotherapy department. This institute has been upgraded into Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) under National Cancer Control Programme by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India in 1999. The planning of all the patients receiving Radiotherapy is done through Simulator CT machine, which is in existence from 10th Sept 1999. Theratron 765 was replaced by our state of art telecobalt Theratron 780E machine on 8th August 2005. Regional Cancer Centre is equipped with Microselectron Brachytherapy unit, which was commissioned on 12th Feb 2005. The Theratron 780C machine was replaced by Theratron Equinox-80 which started functioning on 18th May 2009 and another new Equinox-80 machine was installed, which started functioning on 17th Sept 2012 raising the strength of telecobalt machines to three units. Our department is having a competent team of Radiation Oncologists, Physicists and dedicated residents.



Equipment & Manpower
The planning of all the patients receiving Radiotherapy is done through Simulator CT machine, which is in existence from 10th Sept 1999 but presently under upgradation. A 3-Dimensional radiation treatment planning computer ASHA-TPS is being used in the department for accurate calculation of the dose. The Department is having a dedicated faculty and six MD Radiotherapy students are being trained every year. Ninety five percent of the patients are receiving their radiotherapy treatment free of cost and brachytherapy treatment is provided entirely free of cost to all the needy patients.

• State of the art three dimensional radiation treatment planning computer system is being used for accurate radiation treatment planning.
